St Oscar Romero Catholic Academy Trust Pilgrimage of Hope candle

We proudly welcomed our Trust candle on Wednesday May 7th 2025.

Staff and pupils from our partner school St Joseph’s George Row travelled with the candle as it undertook the next leg of its Pilgrimage to all of the schools in our Trust.

They travelled on the C10 bus and were greeted at the gate by the Headteacher and Diana from Year 10. Elianna of St Joseph’s handed the blessed candle to Diana and the moment was witnessed by Mrs Nicolaou, Head of School at St Joseph’s and Mrs McNelis, Executive Head of St Joseph’s and Notre Dame Greenwich.

7A formed a guard of honour from the gate to our library using flowers and candles to guide the path of this very special candle and our guests on its journey of Hope.

In our amazing school library, Ms Tragheim lead us in a celebration of the word dedicated to Pope Francis – the pupils at St Joseph's had used the candle too, as part of their prayers for Pope Francis. As the conclave was in the process of electing a new Pope, we felt the candle had even greater meaning for us. The new Pope will be elected while the candle is in our care and we can give thanks for the new Pope using the candle as our focus.

We have great plans for a number of outings for Pilgrimages with the candle whilst it is in our care. We hope it will help make our staff and students feel a bigger connection to the Jubilee year, where we are all called to be Pilgrims of Hope.
