Welcome to the PE Department

 Our vision

To actively engage our pupils to develop their full potential through a range of purposeful, yet enjoyable activities within a challenging and productive environment. We want pupils to learn and improve where participation and achievement is measured, monitored and celebrated.

 

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, all pupils have one double lesson (1 and ½ hours) of PE per week. During lessons pupils experience a dynamic and varied curriculum, including activities and learning opportunities from all national curriculum strands.

Year 7: New skills unit, Netball, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders.

Year 8: Netball/Football, HRF, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders.

Year 9: Netball/Football, HRF, Dance, Trampolining, Athletics, Rounders.

Key Stage 4

In KS4 Physical Education focuses on participation, engagement and provides pupils with a range of opportunities to be involved in physical activity. At Key Stage 4 students have 1 double lesson (1 and ½ hours) of PE per week.

Year 10/11 activities include: Basketball, Handball, Football, Netball, Tag rugby, Trampolining, Fitness, Dance, Volleyball, Athletics, Rounder’s, Cricket, Tennis, Badminton, BMX Cycling, Ultimate Frisbee, Swimming and Roller blading/Hockey

 Sports Studies (Level 1/2 certificate)

We offer the Cambridge national certificate in sports studies (level 1/2) certificate in addition to core physical education. Pupils start this course in Yr. 10 and complete it in Yr. 11. This course is divided into three sections: written coursework , practical coursework and a theoretical examination. 

 Sports Leader Award

We also offer the Sports Leaders’ Award (SLA) course.  This is ideal for students wishing to improve their communication and leadership skills. SLA students undergo a series of lessons, culminating in their final assessment which involves leading students from a local primary school for an afternoon of sports activities. 

Extra curricular activities

Extra curricular clubs run every day after school from 3:30pm - 4:30pm. We offer a wide range of activities i.e. Cheerleading, Netball, Football, Athletics,Trampolining, Basketball, Dance, Tennis, Rounder’s, Fitness, Badminton and work with local clubs. We also enter many borough competitions and run House Netball, Football and Rounders competitions every year.
